Within the scope of my work, I explore the idea of bringing my own fictional world to life using not only my research but my experiences in life to do so. I use various mediums, though I put focus on printmaking techniques and some ceramic additions to expand the world, bringing it into a physical form. I combine several pieces into smaller collections. A staple of my work is that I bring fantasy into reality with storytelling and escapism. I use aspects of the real world to give physical form to fantasy. I accompany each of my collections or singular pieces with a piece of written literature— not only presenting my pieces to those who process things visually but also include those who like to dive deeper into what they are seeing in the piece.
When creating, I focus on creating a space where people can escape from reality and into a fictional world outside of our own, like stepping through a portal. In the world today there are a lot of factors that make functioning day to day hard, whether that be mental, physical, or chronic conditions, what is happening in the world, or everyday life. Many chose to distract themselves with fantasy, consuming media that strays from reality. My art plays with that, creating a world different from our own but still recognizable. Using prints, writings, paintings, and different materials and techniques, I create an escape from the current world. Referencing history is another way I bring some familiarity to my art, using historical imagery, items, and events as building blocks and inspiration for building up a fantasy.
With my work I am building experience for others outside of our world, experimenting with different techniques and materials as the projects permit. I bring fiction into a tangible reality that viewers can interact with and hold. Bringing to life a world that engages others and allows for a little magic.
